Intel: Metaverse Vision Need Thousand-fold Computing Power

Intel: Metaverse Vision Need Thousand-fold Computing Power

The US Multinational corporation and tech firm - Intel, made its first metaverse statement. In contrast, the metaverse could be the following approach in computing; its computational power isn't enough like we are led to believe. A senior VP and head of the company's Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group, Raja Koduri, highlighted that after world wide web (WWW) and mobile, the following central computing platform is the metaverse.

Metaverse Hype

Several hypes are revolving around the term 'metaverse' as to what we all will be doing there, be it digital concerts, VR conferences or blockchain and NFT-based combinations. People are excited about the VR and AR reality headsets, whether it's Apple's widely rumoured headset or Meta's Quest products. The existing infrastructure of metaverse includes servers and computers, executing broad shared virtual ecosystems that the metaverse put forwards as the tech future. 

Today's computers are not nearly powerful to make the metaverse dreams into reality. Intel taking an interest in the same, said more and better servers and computers are required to have 1000x computational power for the metaverse.

Hardware Enhancements Alone Not Enough

Intel concludes that hardware alone won't be enough to get 1000x, and Koduri hopes that a standard similar to Moore's Law curve will only produce 10x growth for the next 5 years. He is foreseeing that software and algorithm enhancements will bridge the gap, such as ML-based neural nets or AI-powered computational methods that the firm is already leveraging for things such as Deep Link tech or XeSS supersampling.

Several prominent techies have flocked to the idea that ML and AI will solve computing problems, from developing mobile cameras better to producing upscaled gaming visuals. It's easy to play along with the hype and start aiming ideas to sell NFTs that will follow us from place to place in different virtual settings. If the metaverse is ever going to reach the sci-fi milestone, then there is a lot more foundational task that needs to be done shortly.
