Microsoft HoloLens 2 Headset Now Available in India

Microsoft HoloLens 2 Headset Now Available in India

The US multinational tech corporation - Microsoft has launched its mixed reality headset, HoloLens 2, in India to enable businesses across a wide range of sectors to leverage the potentials of mixed reality solutions. The headset was introduced about 3 years ago at MWC Barcelona is said to change the tasks of workforces in sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, education and automotive.

Rajiv Sodhi, COO of Microsoft India, said that the headset can help organizations and their workforces complete critical tasks safer, swifter and more efficiently. He added, "We are in a new era of computing, in which the digital world goes beyond two-dimensional screens and enters the three-dimensional world."

 

HoloLens 2 Features

According to Microsoft, in the manufacturing and automotive industry, the HoloLens 2 aids in enhancing employer productivity, precision, upskilling, enables remote maintenance, and minimizes downtime. The headset will facilitate simulations, training, and remote experts' consultations in the healthcare sector. 

The HoloLens 2, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 Compute Platform, comes with 4GB LPDDR4x DRAM and 64GB UFS 2.1 storage. It also features Wi-F 802.11ac, Bluetooth version 5 and a C-type USB port. The device runs Window Holographic - a customized Windows OS with 3D Viewer, Microsoft Edge, Dynamics 365 Remote Assist and Dynamics 365 Guides.

Backed by 2K 3:2 light engines, the headset is featured with see-through holographic lenses for 3D viewing. There are 4 visible light and 2 infrared camera sensors for head and eye-tracking. The HoloLens 2 has a 1MP time-of-flight depth sensor and an extra 8MP RGB camera sensor with 1080p video recording at a 30fps frame rate to enable video conferencing. 

The headset also has a microphone array with 5-channel audio input and in-built speakers for spatial sound experience without other audio systems. It leverages natural language speech processing and smart microphones to support voice commands. The device also lets us securely log into it using our eyes with Windows Hello.

Headset Availability

HoloLens 2 can be incorporated with mixed reality venture applications, industry ISV solutions, and new and existing Azure services. Microsoft added that the headset will be available in India via authorized resellers Team Computer and Softline. In 2021, the company also launched an Industrial Edition of the mixed reality headset, stating that it is developed, built, and tested to support controlled environments with stringent needs. While Microsoft hasn't revealed the price details, the headset is available in the US for $3,500.
